Behind The Guitar: Learning from Broadway

I’m a lifelong learner, and I love going to Broadway plays not only to be entertained—but to study. I pay close attention to the structure of the performance: What made the experience truly special? How did they use contrasting elements to drive energy?

A Broadway experience is more than just the performance.

From the moment you enter the venue, everything is intentional: the lighting, the energy of the theater staff, the volume and content of the music—even the temperature in the room—is choreographed to enhance the audience’s experience.

The curtain opens on time, every time. The sound engineers, lighting techs, stage crew, set designers, and actors are the best in the business. They bring their A-game every performance.

When I created Party on the Moon, my goal was to build a show with the structure and precision of a Broadway production. Every song, musical transition, costume change, choreography, and moment of stage blocking is designed to give the audience a three-hour, uplifting, unforgettable experience they’ll carry with them forever. One of my favorite trips was with Dainavon Tuzo and Johnny Glanton the bandleaders with Jessie's Girls It was great to witness their first trip to Broadway.

I feel fortunate and blessed to be part of the entertainment business. I get to perform around the world, learn from the best, and keep sharpening the craft. We’re always improving—always finding new ways to create memories for the people who come see us.

Keep learning,

Dennis
